My home office: Adrienne Fuller

My office in California was a dedicated bedroom. I have had the luxury of being able to fill it with a desk and monitor, instead of a child. I carefully choose tech that is built to last, but also practical for my space (love you, extra wide monitor).

Now I live in Colorado, where my office moved to the basement, and desk lighting moved much higher on my list.

Now, I’m moving my office back into a smaller bedroom, so I’ve swapped my enormous pottery barn L-shaped desk (bon voyage!) for a more petite version that will still allow for a daybed and some plants in this room.

Here’s what’s in my office:

A double wide monitor

If you can’t (or technically can’t, as many monitors aren’t built to) fit a second monitor on your desk, opt for a double-wide monitor like the one I have from Dell (though mine is not curved) and put your laptop on a stand.

This gives you the illusion of having 2.5 monitors when you really have one.

You can fit two browsers side by side on the monitor, and Slack, Zoom, & Spotify on the laptop.

Herman Miller Aeron Chair

It’s the original, and it’s worth it. Get one refurbished, and you may be able to find prices in the $600-800 range. Brand new, expect to shell out more than $1k for this beauty. It’s worth it, trust me.

And by worth it, I mean you should lobby for unrestricted home office funds so you can spend it how you wish.

Would I spend the whole budget on a chair? Maybe!

Apple keyboard

I have the wide version, because the small version looks the same as my laptop keyboard. I need room for my hands to move around, plus a number pad.

Logitech wireless mouse

They’re cheap, last a long time, are easy to set up, comfortable, and are reliable. I’ve never had issues with these, except that I forget to turn it off sometimes to save battery.

I can’t handle the Apple mouse, I’m not sorry. The single clicker just doesn’t work for me. I need to be able to right-click with a separate button.

Brother 4-in-1 printer

I love Brother printers, though I end up using the scan function much more than the print function, so having a multi-purpose printer, scanner, and fax all in one is key.

Believe it or not, faxing still happens, especially with medical documents, mortgages, and other weird old-school shit where you might find yourself at home, needing to get a document somewhere else.

Laptop stand

I like the laptop stands with feet instead of the sticky mats, because the mats collect oil and dirt.
